Coccoloba uvifera, commonly known as seagrape or baygrape, is a species of flowering plant in the buckwheat family, Polygonaceae, that is native to coastal beaches throughout tropical America and the Caribbean, including central & southern Florida, the Bahamas, the Greater and Lesser Antilles, and BermudaThe plant is a fast-growing tree that can grow up to 20 meters tall and produces clusters of green fruit that gradually ripen to a purplish color. The fruit is edible and can be used for jam or eaten directly from the tree. The leaves of the plant are used as a fodder crop.

Here are the step-by-step instructions to grow and care for Coccoloba uvifera:

    1. Plant seagrape in well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. The soil pH should be between 6 and 6.5.
    2. Seagrape requires a sunny location that is sheltered from strong winds.
    3. Water the plants regularly, especially during dry spells. Seagrape doesn’t like to be waterlogged, so make sure the soil drains well.
